Dreamy decor trends for 2019

As I've gotten older, I've realized staying in (especially throughout winter months) is more appealing than going out.  The key to wanting to stay in is creating a home you like, can relax at, and simply just enjoy.  Changing things out can make a "same old" space feel new and refreshed for the months ahead.

Every year, there are new trends in home decor and I love following the trends while also staying true to myself.  In 2019, you can expect to see bolder colors along with feminine tones, more natural touches, and decor that makes a statement.  If you're curious about finding new trends for your living space, I've rounded up my favorite trends for 2019 to help inspire throughout the rest of the year.

1.  Night Watch Green
This unexpectedly amazing deep green shade represents renewal while bringing a lush greenery and luxurious feel to a space.  Night Watch Green pairs flawlessly with pops of color and metallics.  Use it boldly for cabinets and wall paint or as an accent for chairs and decor.

2.  Boho Decor
Boho is definitely a style I've always been drawn to.  Mixing prints and textures make a room exciting and intriguing while natural elements and plants can give one all the heart eyes.

3.  Terrazzo
Marble, specifically grey/white, has been the big trend in decor, accessories, and everything in between for years now.  It's refreshing to see a new "rock (?)" style taking a seat at the decor table.  The mixture of different elements in Terrazzo makes it unique and interesting.

4.  Statement Ceilings
This is a trend that can really make the most out of a space and I am here for it.  If you've got the decor covered on ground level, why not take it up for the main event (literally)?

5.  Feminine Tones
A touch of pink, blush, rose gold, plum, or any other feminine tones never hurt anyone.  It can soften a room without making it overly feminine.  BUT, just take a look at that pink tiled bathroom!  I think I'm going to need that in my future home.

6.  Black + White Decor
Does black and white ever really go out of style?  It's a clean, classic color combination that you really can't go wrong with.

Which is your favorite trend of 2019?

♥ always
Allison

Five Things Friday

In the Midwest, we get crazy irregular temperatures and weather.  Yesterday it was about 80 degrees and today it won't even hit half of that...but luckily, it's FRI-DAYYY!  Here are the Five Things that I've really loved this week.

This modern chic geometric succulent planter from Target will effortlessly and instantly update your decor for spring.  Totally obsessing over this...definitely need one.

With blush hues having a major moment right now, this mirrored jewelry box with agate stone will provide an elegant touch displayed on your dresser.

Bar carts were all the rage in the past but for smaller spaces, it can be tricky to figure out ways to store your booze.  These innovative Liquor shelves are a fun update to the bar cart.  This Fold-Down Bar Shelf can be found at Anthropologie.
For other Liquor shelf ideas, check out this article from Domino:  Liquor Shelves are the New Bar Carts

Over the past year+, I've really been into this band called Bahamas who happened to be playing a show on Valentine's Day at a newish venue in St. Louis, Delmar Hall...obviously the perfect love day date night.  It was our first time to Delmar Hall and the venue was intimate and there couldn't have been a better space for this group to play at.  This is the song that really got me hooked, I hope you like it as much as I (and everyone else at the concert) do and definitely check out more of their music!

Pretty Blooms
I always tell my boyfriend not to get me flowers.  They die, get thrown out, and that makes me sad.  This year for Valentine's Day, he didn't listen and surprised me with the most beautiful colored bouquet I've ever set my eyes on.  Needless to say, I wasn't angry with him for not listening to me ;)

Have a Happy Weekend!

Design Inspiration Monday

Vintage style decor doesn't necessarily mean "blast from the past visiting Great-Grandma's house in the country".  It's a mixture of distressed items, older accents, and various prints combined to create a cozy and nostalgic space.  Today, vintage decor is mixed with modern for a fresh look with historical charm.  What makes it even more unique is that you can create a look that no one else has through items collected at thrift stores, flea markets, Vintage Day Festivals, and so on.  The possibilities are endless.  Also, another perk is that it can be incredibly budget friendly.  This space has a variety of floral prints that flow seamlessly together with shades of blue being the solid stand out hue.  The vintage luggage cases on top of the shelving armoire is a cute and different way to display them rather than using them as a makeshift coffee or end table.  Drawing your attention up to the vaulted ceilings is the crystal chandelier, adding a chic touch to the room.  What is your favorite part about this space?

Have you ever laid eyes on a dreamier bathroom?!  The answer is maybe but probably not.  This space seriously looks like something straight out of a lodge resort, right? (and it very well could be).  The mixing of the large straight line tile with the rugged brick and stone gives a modern-chic, yet earthy-rugged vibe...almost like "I want to look pretty and cool without looking like I tried too hard."   Seems like the perfect space to unwind after a long day with a glass of wine in hand.  Well, maybe not a GLASS glass (unless you're a risk-taker) but you get the picture.

This indoor 4 season room is a dream all year around.  Plenty of light, airy and bright for the summer.  Cozy and comfortable in the winter.  The rustic, monochromatic neutral mix is a unique take on a "patio" type of room.  The string lights add a nice ambiance to entertain or have a game night.  This space is unquestionable filled with laughs, good times, and happy hours all year long.

Geometric shapes, animal print, spots, and zig-zags.  So many patterns and such a dream.  It can be a little tricky when it comes to mixing different patterns in a room, but this delightful print mashup is perfect.  Matching a color or two from print to print will help with the flow and coordination of the patterns so that it won't end up an eyesore.  The cheery and playful colors add light and brightness to the space.  The neutral furniture pieces make it easy to change up the decor and complete look of the room without a huge investment.  I'm also seriously envious of that coffee table with the nail head trim...Looks like a potential future DIY project to me!  What is your favorite part of this living room?

This reclaimed wood kitchen is adorable!  The black chairs contrast with the white bench, which is utilized in smaller kitchens or spaces.  The little potted plants and floral add some liveliness to the space.  My personal favorite part is the modern geometric chandelier mixed in with the rustic look of the kitchen.

Here are some similar chandeliers to shop:

Black, white and touches of copper.  This industrial-chic kitchen features open shelving, giving the small space a more open feel.  The exposed brick always draws me into a room and I love the contrast of a lighter brick with the black floors.  Also, I'm having some real oven envy over here because of those gold knobs.  What do you think about this kitchen?

Metallic wallpaper, pretty please!  This ultra feminine staircase nook looks so pretty and peaceful with the ladylike blue hues, gold, silver, and antique furniture.  Because of the reflection, metallic wallpapers will brighten a space and is visually pleasing all around.  What do you think about metallic wallpaper?

With spring right around the corner, what better way to prepare than with a colorful floral wallpaper?  What I really like about this powder room is how the designer kept everything else a simple white rather than pick a color in the wallpaper and use the same color to accessorize.  With all the colors on the wall, the clean white keeps the room from looking childish and too matchey-matchey.  The black and white abstract artwork adds a modern touch.  It's girly and feminine but not completely over the top.  Now, I'm not much of a morning person, but I might become one if I could enjoy this bathroom while I conquer my coffee and doll up for the day.

Design Inspiration Monday

Happy Leap Day!  What's so exciting about today is that there's an extra Design Inspiration Monday for you to enjoy!  This grand eclectic living room showcases an abundance of pattern, wood detailing, and color.  The sage green staircase pairs perfectly with the salmon color furniture.  I also love the unique wood carved panels on the staircase that complement the wood carving around the doorway.  What is it about this room that peaks your interest?

This neutral, modern farmhouse dining room features pops of green.  The uniform lighter color wood between the floor, bench and table creates a consistent look, which I find pleasing to the eye.  The silver metal chairs on the opposite side of the bench add the industrial flair.  Green velvet wingback chairs at the end of the table add a spunky pop to the otherwise colorless room.  What do you think about this dining room?

Texture, mixed metallics, mirrors, subtle patterns.  This living room nook has it all.  Having a slight obsession with mirrors (to where I may eventually get #ihavethisthingwithmirrors trending on IG), the mirror mixture ultimately grasped my attention.  The arch shaped mirror on the floor seriously gives me googly eyes. Carrying different sizes and two styles of sunburst mirrors throughout the room sparks interest.  I tend to be one who shys away from yellows, but love the light mustard combined with pewter, charcoal and gold tones.

Look to love:  Luxe Industrial.  A bare, concrete room is elegantly contrasted with classic antique artwork and furniture.  A wall of windows allow for a sufficient amount of light, while the pattern floor softens the slate room and adds visual interest.

Lately, I've been drooling over the modern rustic decorating style.  The clean, straight lines combined with fur accents create a cozy, yet calming and clear mood.  There's texture and and interest, but it's not busy or cluttered.  The low, reclaimed coffee table on wheels is unique, peaking interest and easy to move for entertaining purposes.  What do you think of this room?  Do you like the boho modern style?

Design Inspiration Monday

A number of times, I've had someone ask how to decorate using birdcages.  They'll find one they like, but aren't quite sure what to do with it.  Usually, setting it on a mantle or coffee table and filling it with greenery or cute accessories are ways to incorporate birdcages in decor.  What grabbed my attention about this living room is the chandelier housed in the birdcage.  Such a cute and creative idea!  Another aspect that drew me to this space is the mixing of patterns.  Black and white polka dots are a classic print combination while the blue and purple carpet peaks whimsical interest.  What do you think?  How would you incorporate birdcages into decor?

Mondays can be rough.  Mondays after a long holiday weekend can be especially rough.  This Lincoln Park flat living room by Wendy Labrum Interiors is the remedy for those Monday blues.  Patterned pink pillows adorning the oversized tufted sofa create a feminine feel to the room, while the giant gallery wall proves this design element is still having a major moment.
